We had a fairly short drive, with check in no earlier than 1pm, so we took our time getting out of Sevierville campground, catching up on a little housework.
The drive to NC was really lovely, often winding roads through the mountains, and reduced speeds on the roads to account for that. Friends Lou and Roberta had stayed at the campground in Swannanoa that we were headed to, and were concerned about us making the grade to the top tier, so Clem had made another call, and was assured that even larger coaches had made it. We did unhook the car at the bottom, and we were escorted up steep inclines and around tight curves, to the top of the world! Wow!! So gorgeous up here, with the mountains all around us. I didn’t think it was that bad going up, but the exit ramp going
down looks a little scary! I’ll have to take that one slow and wide!
We walked around a bit, and and noticed a really good looking airstream, with what appeared to be the number 038 on the back. I had recently looked up the meaning of the numbers, and learned the guy who invented them was number 001 of the Airstream club membership he eventually organized, and many still bear the original numbers. A young couple was there, and we struck up a conversation to find out it was built in 1975 and they had spent 6 months renovating it, and had a buyer in Florida they were delivering it to from their home in St. Louis. She was quite gregarious and I learned a lot about her childhood tent camping, and her preferences for campgrounds, and then saw her launch her drone to catch some photos of the sunset over the mountains. I kind of had to steal away, or we might have been there all night! On the return walk....around the BACK of their trailer.....I noticed an instagram insignia, with penelopeairstream on the back, and looked it up. Great shots of the interior....she is a good photographer with the camera, too! I am now following them on their journey to sell this one, and revamp their next. Interesting!
