Original early plans for Saturday were scratched, and we instead met the family at Kimball’s for ice cream and activities. A visit would not be complete without an ice cream stop and the now famous, hugely expanded Kimball’s, home to fresh dairy made goodness since 1939! When we lived here, it was one window at a farm stand, and now requires traffic warning lights and multiple parking areas in fields to accommodate the crowds coming not only for ice cream, but batting cages, bumper boats, arcade games, and the like. Unfortunately, it proved a popular day for some reason, and there were even lines to get to the tees at mini golf! I have never seen it quite that crowded!
So we enjoyed our cold treat, then set out for the Lexington visitor center, where an excellent film shows the progression of the Revolution, and ‘the shot heard round the world”. We parked a bit away, which proved fortuitous, as we then walked along the Battle Road, and inspected remains of farmsteads and plaques dedicated to those who fought and died.

The girls wanted to have dinner at one of their favorite spots, The Old Mill, which seemed fitting after revisiting colonial times. Plus, they have the best pecan rolls on the table before dinner! Weary travelers all, we then called it a night!
